Synopsis and Discussion
Itchy skin? Chapped lips? In case you haven't noticed, it's very
dry out there. In the wake of the system that brought wind and periods
of blowing dust to Arizona, much cooler and drier air has filled in.
The low temperature last Thursday was 71 degrees. Just three days later
on Sunday, it was 50. This is a direct result of the lack of moisture
in the air. Dewpoints in the Valley are currently in the teens, while
they are in the single digits up north in Flagstaff and the Grand
Canyon. That's dry! High pressure will continue to build in from the
southeast, allowing the region to warm up a bit. We'll be back in the
mid 90s by Friday and Saturday.
Air quality was very good on Columbus Day as all pollutants fell into
the "Good" category of the Air Quality Index (AQI). We'll see each
gradually increase the next few days with Particulates likely reaching
the "Moderate" range as early as tomorrow. They'll remain there through
the rest of the week. It doesn't look like we'll see another system
affect the area until at least next Sunday. In the mean time, keep
checking back each day for the latest information and any changes that
may come our way. Until tomorrow, have a good day! -J.Paul
