Synopsis and Discussion
The 90-day local dry spell is coming to an end. Scattered mainly light
showers and isolated thunderstorms managed to drop up to 0.15" of rain
at Valley airports this morning and more is on the way. The catalyst
for the weather change is vigorous upper level low and trough in the
southern branch of the mid-latitude storm track. The center of the
system was still offshore this a.m. but is advertised to track over
Arizona the next 36 hours or so. Showers are expected to turn to steady
rain by Thursday afternoon and storm totals may approach 1" at some
locations - but mainly the over the north and northeast Valley. The
precipitation and the accompanying clean air mass will definitely result
in several days of overall good air quality in the metro area. -
something we can all be thankful for. -Reith
