Synopsis and Discussion
A very strong ridge aloft just off the California coast will continue to
approach Arizona the next few days. Air mass stagnation produced by
significant warming aloft (13-15 deg F in the 5-10K' layer by Thursday
afternoon) will be offset to a degree by increasing gradient winds and
near-record daytime heating for this time of year. Even so, would expect
a mean decrease in mixing depths and dispersion the next few days and a
resulting increase in particle pollutant concentrations over those of
Tuesday and early today. -Reith
