Synopsis and Discussion
Tuesday's Election Day weather here in the Phoenix forecast area was pretty uneventful despite the large trough of low pressure that moved into the region. It was noticeably cooler, though. The morning low was 60°F, only climbing eighteen degrees to a high of 78°F by 4pm. That's chilly for Phoenix natives. But in comparison, folks voting in Billings, Montana, woke to temps in the upper 30s with a high of 49°F. I'll take Phoenix any day!
High pressure will begin to return by Friday. Afternoon desert temperatures will rebound to the low 80s over the weekend. Another series of disturbances will sweep through the western U.S. next week, keeping this area of high pressure from becoming too strong.
PM-10 concentrations were up slightly, still in the low "Moderate" range, while PM-2.5 levels here in the Valley held in the "Good" range for the third consecutive day. Both will increase steadily through the weekend as that area of high pressure builds in. Neither is expected to approach the health standard until at least next week. Check back tomorrow for any changes that may occur in the weather or air quality. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
