Synopsis and Discussion
Rather stagnant conditions out there this morning with a 4-5 deg C
surface-based radiation inversion that extends to near 2K'. A fairly
thick Valley Brown Cloud of trapped particle pollutants was also on
display. The good news is that a change to unsettled weather in the
form of a strong trough in the mid-latitude storm track that will bring
gusty winds and excellent ventilation to the metro area on Tuesday. The
bad news is that this system will be dry for our forecast area and that
the aforementioned winds may generate some areas of blowing dust.
Although wind-driven PM-10 (coarse particle) concentrations are expected
to rise, unhealthy levels are not expected at this time. It has now
been 67 days since the last significant local rainfall event and this
string is not expected to end any time soon. Long-range weather charts
are advertising an active storm track over the next two weeks, but
embedded storms are currently exhibiting overland trajectories that
would yield little if any precipitation. -Reith
