Synopsis and Discussion
The large area of low pressure over the western U.S. that brought showers to the deserts, snow to the mountains, and tornados to Colorado and Kansas yesterday will steadily weaken and retreat north and west over the next several days. This will be a slow change, so the chance for showers and thunderstorms here in the Phoenix forecast area will continue through early Saturday. As the trough lifts north, the moisture will also retreat and drier conditions will prevail. The warm up will also be gradual, so we won't see the triple digits until Wednesday of next week. This weather maker did produce some poor air quality for the region earlier this week, transporting ozone into the region as well as kicking up dust across the deserts. The moisture has done a great job of cleansing the atmosphere somewhat, so we expected to see relatively good air quality the next couple of days. As the flow turns more out of the southwest on Sunday and Monday, we'll have to keep an eye on southern California to see if we will have any significant ozone import. Check back on Sunday for a look at your forecasted Memorial Day weather and air quality. Until then, enjoy the weekend with temperatures in the 80s!
