Synopsis and Discussion
Local ozone levels rebounded a bit on Wednesday but remained well below
their potential given the current synoptic weather situation; however,
most monitoring sites this morning are indicating higher hourly
concentrations than 24 hours ago. The main branch of the mid-latitude
storm track will remain displaced south over CONUS thru the weekend with
a series of weak disturbances passing by the next few days. In the wake
of each disturbance veering flow aloft in the 5-10K' layer will be
capable of delivering additional ozone and its constituents from
California over the local forecast area. This pattern also existed on
Tuesday and Wednesday, however, with little air quality impact thus far.
The highest potential for another such strong influx appears to be late
Friday; under sunny skies and with relatively light winds advertised for
Saturday afternoon, ozone levels may approach unhealthy levels then -
mainly over the northeast and east Valley. -Reith
