Synopsis and Discussion
AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR TODAY WEDNESDAY MAY 07
Tuesday was the first day since March 29 that all local air pollutant
concentrations were in the good range of the Air Quality Index. A
significant increase in ozone concentrations is still expected today -
especially over the far north and east Valley locations due to
afternoon southwest to westerly surface winds - so today's Ozone Health
Watch will remain in effect, but mainly for locations downwind of the
metro area. The flow aloft between 5 and 10K' remains highly conducive
to transport of ozone and its precursors from southern and central
California, where unhealthy levels were recorded in some areas on
Tuesday. Periodic transport is predicted to continue into Friday, but
considerable mid and high-level cloudiness from the sub-tropics is
expected to overspread the local forecast area by Thursday afternoon.
As a result, local ozone production should be suppressed enough to keep
peak concentrations from approaching unhealthy levels.
