Synopsis and Discussion
A PM-10 HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT TODAY TUESDAY MAY 06
AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR WEDNESDAY MAY 07
Unexpected sustained southerly winds of 15-25 mph with gusts to near 40
mph on Monday afternoon kept local ozone plume formation and migration
from occurring as forecast; the last day highest ozone levels were in
the good range of the Air Quality Index was on April 13 and since the
season began have been lower on only one day - April 03. It still
appears that a strong and widespread influx of ozone and/or its
precursors from California is possible beginning just before midnight
tonight and continuing thru a.m. Wednesday. However, since upstream
ozone levels were not especially high on Monday and are not forecast to
be so today, and since local ozone concentrations have dropped so
precipitously, an Ozone Health Watch has been issued instead of a High
Pollution Advisory. For today there is still a risk of strong
thunderstorm downdraft winds capable of generating areas of dense
blowing dust; therefore, the existing PM-10 Health Watch will remain in
effect. -Reith
