Mon Mar 17 12:38:36 MST 2008

Health message for Monday, Mar 17: No health impacts expected.

Health message for Tuesday, Mar 18: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
The very cold upper level low and trough that were over the local
forecast area on Monday morning are headed east and will be replaced by
a warm ridge by Wednesday. This will result in a dramatic increase in
afternoon high temperatures - close to 80 degrees F by Wednesday - and
an even more significant jump in temperatures aloft - 20-25 degrees F in
the 5K-10K' layer. This will result in an increasingly stagnant air
mass over the Valley that will contribute to lower mixing heights, less
favorable dispersion, decreased visibilities, and higher levels of
trapped particle pollutants. Even so, highest concentrations should
stay below the mid-moderate range of the Air Quality Index thru this
forecast period. -Reith
