Synopsis and Discussion
Not much change is expected through the remainder of the week as high pressure continues to develop and move north. By Friday, upper level winds are expected to turn out of the southeast, and then east on Saturday as the center of the high moves over the Four Corners area. However, models don't show the lower level winds turning out of the east this weekend. This means that the inevitable ramp in ozone concentrations may not happen until sometime next week. Moisture continues to stream in from the south, but still not enough to spark wide-spread thunderstorm activity across Arizona. Conditions are still fairly dry in many areas of the southwest that dry lightning has sparked over 800 fires in southern California and several more in southeastern Arizona. Monsoon rains can't come soon enough! Ozone was in the low to mid "Moderate" range across the Phoenix forecast area on Monday and we expect another couple days of further decline in concentrations as the flow is out of the south rather than west. Particulates have climbed into the mid "Moderate" range at the West 43rd site. That probably won't change until the first summer storm pushes through the Valley. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Have a good day! -J.Paul
