Synopsis and Discussion
AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR FRIDAY AUGUST 01
The summer monsoon circulation pattern is trying to make a comeback this
a.m. with the establishment of a strong upper level high circulation
center near the Four Corners. This feature, along with relatively dry
air currently over the local forecast area, will contribute to a few
more uncomfortably hot days with Valley temperatures approaching the 115
degree F mark on Friday. With no cloud cover to speak of, ozone
production should peak on Friday; at the same time lighter afternoon
winds that are advertised to occur will increase the degree of ozone
accumulation. With this prospect in mind, an Ozone Health Watch has
been issued for Friday as a precaution for those with respiratory
problems such as asthma. Monsoon thunderstorms may approach the metro
area from the east as early as Saturday afternoon, at which time the
potential for areas of blowing dust generated by downdrafts/outflow
boundaries will increase.
