Synopsis and Discussion
Early Sunday morning it was the west Valley. On Monday afternoon, it
was the east side's turn as thunderstorms towered over the mountains
east of the Phoenix metro area. From the Maricopa County Flood Control
District's rain gauges, it looks like Mesa was the only location to
receive rain on Monday. It was brief, isolated and heavy with some spot
collecting over three quarters of an inch in less than an hour. Then it
was over. The sun is out again on Tuesday, but storms are building
earlier and bigger over the Mogollon Rim than they did on Monday. Thus,
Phoenix will be under the gun for more storms late Tuesday afternoon and
evening. Ozone inched higher on Monday, primarily in the far-east
Valley with Fountain Hills checking in at 77 AQI. As high pressure
strengthens over the Four Corners region, levels will likely remain in
the mid-to-upper "Moderate" range the next several days. This means the
each day will be similar to the one before with Ozone increasing a bit
more each day this week. Particulates are very low due to the moist
atmosphere and recent rain events which should keep the threat of dust
storms reaching the forecast area at a minimum. No health statements
are being issued at this time. Check back tomorrow for more. Have a
good day! -J.Paul
