Synopsis and Discussion
*An Ozone Health Watch remains in effect for Friday, July 18, 2008*
Ozone has been on the rise the past several days in the Phoenix forecast
area thanks to an eastward push from Southern California. Yuma saw some
high concentrations on Thursday, exceeding the 8-hr standard with a 122
AQI. This flow could produce upper "Moderate" readings in the Valley of
the Sun again on Friday. High clouds will increase through out the day
on Friday, with lower-level clouds thickening early Saturday. A
northward push of moisture from the Gulf of California will cause desert
dewpoints to soar into the upper 60s Saturday and Sunday. Models are
now suggesting that Phoenix could see up to a half an inch of rain late
Saturday night into early Sunday. The clouds resulting from the
increase moisture on Saturday combined with the southerly flow cutting
off the ozone import will likely result in concentrations in the Phoenix
forecast area plummeting into upper "Good" range by Sunday.
Particulates may spike a bit with any thunderstorm outflow that may
occur nearby, but with a few puddles still remaining from last weekend's
washout, we likely won't see any significant readings in the dust
category. The Ozone Health Watch will be allowed to expire on Friday
without further extension. Check back on Sunday for more. Have a great
weekend! -J.Paul
