Synopsis and Discussion
* AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2008*
With an inverted trough over the southwest heading into the weekend,
thunderstorm activity will kick into high gear. Moisture continues to
stream north from Old Mexico resulting in desert dewpoints in the low
60s. As of 10am Thursday morning, storms have already begun to pop
southwest of Tucson with a northward movement. Models indicate that the
Phoenix forecast area will have the best shot a heavy rain late Thursday
night into early Friday morning, and again on late Friday afternoon.
With abundant cloud cover, Ozone concentrations will significantly drop
off at most locations with maybe one or two sites reaching the
"Moderate" range, making full use of the intermittent sunshine. Thus,
we will allow Thursday's Ozone Health Watch to expire with no extension.
As is always the case with thunderstorms, there is a threat of blowing
dust from approaching storms. If followed by widespread rain, that
threat is considerably lower with additional storms. Thus, we expect
Particulates to drop into and remain in the "Good" range through at
least Saturday. We could see a slight break in the activity by Sunday.
Check back tomorrow for the most up-to-date information on the rain
event as well as the coming weekend's air quality. Have a good day!
-J.Paul
