Health message for Thursday, Jan 31: No health impacts expected.
Health message for Friday, Feb 01: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
Synopsis and Discussion
In the wake of Wednesday's trough/frontal passage-induced wind event, a
low-amplitude ridge aloft is building over the local forecast area from
the northwest this morning. As a result, significant warming aloft (on
the order of 15 deg F in the 5-10K' layer) is projected to occur over
the local forecast area during the next 36 hours. In addition, the
presence of a relatively light wind regime will probably result in less
than favorable Valley dispersion by Friday morning. Also, under clear
skies and a dry air mass, stronger inversions are anticipated to form
the next few mornings. Thus, an increase in pollutant particle levels -
principally PM-2.5 - is anticipated thru the first part of the weekend,
especially if numerous wood-burning fireplaces are simultaneously
utilized pre-Super Bowl. Another trough is advertised to arrive over
the area on Sunday; dry but breezy to windy and colder conditions appear
likely. -Reith
