Health message for Wednesday, Jan 30: No health impacts expected.
Synopsis and Discussion
Recent local ACARS sounding data indicates that the best mixing depth
today will be near 5200' and that dispersion will be GOOD with a
northwesterly transport wind speed of 5-10 mph. Another upper trough
and surface frontal passage is on tap for Wednesday. The northwest to
southeast track of this particular mid-latitude storm will not be very
conducive for rainfall over the Valley, but associated gradient winds
will lead to very breezy to marginally windy conditions by afternoon.
After this a ridge aloft will build over the state on Thursday but will
de-amplify with time as additional disturbances pass by to the north.
Warming aloft, stronger morning inversions, and lighter winds will cause
the local air mass to begin to stagnate as early as Thursday, and fine
particle (PM-2.5) concentrations are predicted to trend upward by then.
However, due to a continuation of the current active weather pattern, no
unhealthy air pollution levels are anticipated anytime soon. -Reith
