Synopsis and Discussion
What a surprise! Though we did expect some light showers around the
Valley on Thursday, some of the rainfall totals were not expected.
After all, this was only a piece of energy sent out ahead of the main
event. The west Valley for the most part was the winner with Sun City
checking in with about a quarter of an inch. We will see partly cloudy
skies in the Phoenix forecast area on Friday, further clearing the first
half of Saturday, and then increased clouds Saturday afternoon. The
main area of low pressure will move through California on Saturday and
into Arizona on Sunday. Expect showers to begin to develop along the
Colorado River region early Sunday and then expand eastward and
intensify by midday Sunday. The showers will continue through early
Monday with some periods of heavy rain possible. The mountains around
Flagstaff could get as much as 33" of fresh snow from this one! Winds
will generally be around 10 to 20 mph from the southwest with the
occasional higher gust. Outdoor activities planned for Sunday? You
might want to come up with a plan B. Thanks to the Valley-wide showers
on Thursday, all pollutants plummeted into the "Good" range of the Air
Quality Index (AQI). They will remain there through at least Monday.
Clearing will take place on Monday and Tuesday before another
disturbance threatens the forecast area by the middle of next week.
Check back on Sunday for the latest on the coming work-week's expected
weather and air quality. Have a great weekend and enjoy the rain!
