Synopsis and Discussion
The cutoff are of low pressure continues to spin off the coast of California. As it does so, pieces of energy are being launched towards our forecast area. This is evident by the cloudy skies in Phoenix on Thursday morning. Currently there are some light showers occurring in western and northern Arizona. As the day progresses, these shower could move east into the Phoenix forecast area. However, no major rainfall amounts are expected in the low deserts today. Because this is just one wave and not the main system, there will be clearing on Friday into Saturday morning. Fighting to hang on, high pressure will allow for a warm day on Saturday, with desert highs around 70°F. Clouds will begin to thicken once again Saturday afternoon as the low off the coast of San Francisco closes up and joins the main flow, heading inland. We can expect significant rainfall here in the Valley early Sunday into Monday morning, with some higher-elevated locations receiving close to an inch. Most other Valley spots will see between 0.25-0.50 inches. This is great for air quality. Particulates have held in the low to mid "Moderate" range for much of the week despite the low mixing heights and relatively light winds. Any rain will help to lower those concentrations further, possibly back into the "Good" range by Sunday. Check back tomorrow for a better look at this scenario. Have a good day! -J.Paul
