Health message for Thursday, Jan 24: Unusually sensitive people should
consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.
Synopsis and Discussion
The area of low pressure off the coast of San Francisco, California that
we've been talking about will move inland late Wednesday into early
Thursday. It will increase clouds over Arizona on Thursday as it
approaches the region. Because it will stay mainly to the north of the
state, winds will not be too strong with this system. Late Saturday
into Sunday will be the best chance for soaking rain across the deserts
as the low taps into the subtropical moisture band to the south. With
the increased moisture to assist in keeping dust down, there should be a
noticeable decline in particulate levels through the weekend, especially
if we receive widespread rainfall. The trough will kick out no later
than Tuesday morning to give us a couple days of drier weather before
the next wave. Timing of this event will be fine tuned over the next
couple of days, so check back each day for the latest on the weather and
resulting air quality. Have a good one! -J.Paul
