Health message for Wednesday, Jan 23: Unusually sensitive people should
consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.
Synopsis and Discussion
Models are still holding relatively consistent, showing the large trough
of low pressure off the coast of central California moving onshore
Wednesday, approaching Arizona on Thursday. Leading up to this event,
winds in the Phoenix forecast area will remain fairly light with not so
favorable mixing. This means that we can expect elevated particulate
levels on Tuesday and Wednesday. Clouds begin to stream in early
Thursday, thickening as the day goes on. Showers may develop late
Thursday. This system will tap into subtropical moisture, which means
that heavy showers are possible late Friday and Saturday from time to
time. The subtropical air will also keep temperatures warmer than they
generally could be with a system moving down from the north. Thus, the
deserts will see highs remain in the low to mid 60s through the weekend.
Needless to say, any rain will help clear the air of the accumulating
particles, hopefully dropping the air quality back into the "Good" range
of the Air Quality Index this weekend. Check back tomorrow for the
latest. Have a good day! -J.Paul
