Health message for Wednesday, Jan 16: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Health message for Thursday, Jan 17: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
This morning's rather stagnant Valley air mass will gradually disappear
by this afternoon as northerly winds increase behind a surface cold
front currently over central Arizona. Since the front originated over
land with virtually no low-level moisture to work with, no rain and only
a few clouds are expected. The low-level pressure gradient is expected
to be even stronger early Thursday as high pressure builds to the north.
As a result, gusty winds will return by sunrise and may be sufficient to
raise and transport some dust from localized areas of
disturbed/destabilized soils. Thus, PM-10 levels have the potential to
spike in some areas, especially in the northwest and west metro areas.
Otherwise, relatively good air quality is predicted for the next few
days. -Reith
