Health message for Thursday, Feb 28: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
Synopsis and Discussion
A high-amplitude ridge aloft has begun to build over Arizona; its axis
is just to the west of the state and a weak disturbance will move thru
it on Thursday. Low-level gradients are much weaker today than on
Tuesday and per ACARS soundings winds aloft had already dropped off to
mostly <15 mph before the noon hour. Warm air aloft and relatively
light winds will tend to result in less than favorable dispersion the
next few days and be accompanied by a modest but steady increase in
trapped particle pollutant concentrations. At this time pollutant levels
are not expected reach beyond the mid-moderate range of the Air Quality
Index thru this forecast period. -Reith
