Synopsis and Discussion
The last wave of the system was somewhat of a disappointment as hardly anywhere in the Valley got any meaningful rain Wednesday night. It was a pretty good three-day system, however, with part of the forecast area collecting well over an inch of rain. Sky Harbor, however, got just two tenths. That's okay. As the old saying goes, "Nobody lives at the airport anyway!" By the way, visibility is phenomenal!
The system has quickly moved east and partly cloudy skies are the rule across the deserts. High pressure will build over the region the next several days, allowing the Phoenix forecast area to dry out and warm up. We're looking at afternoon desert temperatures in the mid to upper 60s through the weekend and possibly a high of 70°F on Christmas Day. A slight chance of showers is possible next Tuesday, but it appears that mostly light winds will continue to rule the forecast the next week or so.
For now, all pollutants are in the "Good" range. Fine Particulates (PM-2.5) will begin to climb towards the "Moderate" range rather quickly then next few days as nighttime temperatures will be a bit cooler and inversions return. The impact of festive fireplace activity heading into Christmas and possibly New Year's could bring a Health Watch or HPA during those holidays if high pressure does in fact hold strong. We're keeping an eye on your holiday weather and air quality and will let you know of any changes that may occur. In the mean time, have a good day! -J.Paul
