Synopsis and Discussion
The rain is finally here and the numbers are starting to roll in...
As of 10 a.m., Glendale, Peoria and Sun City were just over a half an
inch, Surprise and the White Tanks Mountains were at three-quarters of
an inch, while they were closing in on an inch already up near
Carefree/Cave Creek. This storm's just getting started, too. The
heaviest is still to come late Wednesday into Thursday with at least an
additional inch of wet stuff. Interesting to note, Phoenix only
received 5.04 inches of rain in all of 2007. As of yesterday, Phoenix
was sitting at 8.61 inches, which is 0.80 inches above normal. Needless
to say, this was a really good year for rain across the southwest
deserts!
Up in the high country, places along the Mogollon Rim can expect at
least 20 inches of snow and possibly as much as 30 inches. This is a
major winter storm with lots of cold air which means Valley temperatures
will remain in the upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend.
Rain will end by mid-day Thursday and the sun will shine Friday and
Saturday with little wind. However, models suggest that this rainy
pattern is not over. We may see another event by next Tuesday, possibly
lasting into Christmas morning. There's no guarantee as it is still
over a week away, but we'll keep an eye on that.
Air quality-wise, it's all good. Fine Particulates were barely
"Moderate" at Phoenix Supersite in Monday, likely due to local
fireplaces, but with this rain, all pollutants will plummet well into
the "Good" range several days. We'll have more for you tomorrow. Until
then, enjoy the rain and have a good day! -J.Paul
