Synopsis and Discussion
AN OZONE HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THURSDAY APRIL 24
AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR WEDNESDAY APRIL 23
Local ozone concentrations rose again on Tuesday with over half of the
sites in the entire monitoring network at or above the 90-AQI level.
This degree of Valley ozone saturation for so early in the season, as
well as unhealthy ozone readings in such widely-dispersed locations as
Yuma and Casa Grande, are characteristics of widespread ozone and/or
ozone precursor transport from California exacerbating locally produced
ozone. Winds in the 2K-10K' layer remain conducive to such transport
today, but are predicted to shift to a more northerly direction below
5K' by Thursday morning as ridging aloft follows today's trough passage.
Since ozone concentrations have been and are likely to remain near or at
unhealthy levels for another day or two, an Ozone High Pollution
Advisory has been issued for Thursday. -Reith
