Synopsis and Discussion
A PM-10 HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR TUESDAY APRIL 08
After a relatively tranquil day today, a turn to windy and then cooler
weather in the Valley is in the offing as a strong but dry upper level
trough and surface cold front in the mid-latitude storm track approaches
on Tuesday and arrives on Wednesday. Winds are forecast to increase
throughout the day Tuesday with the potential for gusty conditions to
persist into the late night hours and then resume on Wednesday as the
frontal passage occurs. Not only will locally dry and disturbed areas
of soil be especially prone to fugitive dust (coarse particle/PM-10)
emissions, but some transport of airborne dust from desert areas to the
west of the Phoenix area is possible. Due to the potential for coarse
particle concentrations to approach unhealthy levels in some areas -
particularly the west Valley - a PM-10 Health Watch has been issued for
primarily late in the day on Tuesday as a precaution for those with
heart or lung disease. Otherwise, air pollutant concentrations are
anticipated to stay in or near the good range of the Air Quality Index
thru Wednesday.
