Synopsis and Discussion
Another sign that Ozone Season is clearly underway here in Arizona is
that Pinal County monitors (Casa Grande and Maricopa) are showing
elevated readings to rival those of metropolitan Phoenix. Again, it's
still not anywhere near health concern levels, but it's just a fun
observation that we see this time of year. Those concentrations will
drop off considerable as the Monsoon season approaches. Particulates
were also up a bit at a few sites on Tuesday. Weather-wise, we will see
a weak disturbance move across the western U.S. increasing winds in
Arizona Wednesday afternoon into the late evening hours. Conditions
improve Thursday, though some lingering cloudiness will keep afternoon
desert temperatures in the upper 70s. High pressure builds over the
region again Thursday afternoon through Saturday, allowing those
temperatures to warm into the upper 80s. We could see some ozone
transport with this current system, resulting in elevated concentrations
in the Valley on Thursday. So for the next couple of days, Ozone and
Coarse Particulates will likely be in the low to mid "Moderate" range
before improving over the weekend. Check back tomorrow for more. Have
a good day! -J.Paul
