Synopsis and Discussion
It was another rain event than didn't really materialize. The players
were in position Monday, but the event passed without any measurable
rainfall here in the Valley. The clouds did hold ozone levels well in
the "Good" range of the Air Quality Index, but that is to be expected
this time of year. Particulate levels did increase ahead of the front.
With more moisture in the air however, particulates began to fall back
to the ground. Thus, PM-10 concentrations were not nearly as high as
they could have been on Monday in the local forecast area. The lack of
ground-soaking rain leaves the dust poised to be kicked back into the
air the next couple of days. There is another weather system expected
to form off the coast of California over the next day or so. It will
follow a similar path as the last. Again, models suggest a chance for
showers and thunderstorms late Thursday into Friday across the deserts
(including the Phoenix forecast area) as the associated cold front
swings through the region. Have your umbrella handy but don't let it
change your plans just yet. Any wind could increase Particulate levels
by kicking up more dust. Any rain will cleanse the air. It's a wait
and see situation. Check back tomorrow for a closer look at this
scenario. Have a good day! -J.Paul
