Synopsis and Discussion
*A PM10 HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, AND
A PM2.5 HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2007*
Clouds continue to keep temperatures down a bit across the deserts of
Arizona. Gone are those unusually warm 80s we saw just a week ago. Now
we are contending with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s.
That's terribly cold (for the Phoenix native)! This cold air is also
keeping the morning inversions fairly strong and mixing height low.
High pressure is not doing us any favors with light winds, either. As a
result, PM10 levels are back in the mid to upper "Moderate" range. It
also appears that residential fireplaces have been active the past few
nights. Durango's PM2.5 levels were high overnight and continue to be
high Tuesday morning. With no relief in the next 48 hours, it's
possible we could see a PM2.5 exceedance before the saving rains this
weekend. Thus, we are issuing a PM2.5 Health Watch for Wednesday.
Speaking of those "saving" rains... Models are holding to the
likelihood of widespread rain across Arizona (including the Phoenix
forecast area) as early as Friday night. This event could potentially
put an end to the Particulate threat for a while if not the rest of the
season depending on rainfall amounts. It's going to be an active next
couple of days trying to peg this one down. Check back tomorrow for the
latest. Have a good day! -J.Paul
