Synopsis and Discussion
Much of the Valley residents have woken up to cloudy skies Thursday
morning. We can thank that pesky area of low pressure over north Baja.
It has begun to slowly move northeast. In doing so, it has found some
moisture over Mexico and is steering it north into Arizona. So far,
there hasn't been any rain recorded (as of 10:30am) in the Phoenix
forecast area as the surface dewpoints are only in the 30s. This
moisture will continue to pump north through Thursday afternoon. If it
doesn't saturate the lower atmosphere enough during this time, then our
rainless streak in Phoenix (now at 55 days) will continue for another
week or so. Hopefully this low is will be enough to clear some of this
pollution out. We'll see when the sun comes up tomorrow. High pressure
returns Friday afternoon through early next week. Afternoon desert
temperatures will remain in the low to mid 80s during this time. A much
stronger trough of low pressure may impact our forecast area next
Thursday. The main story there will be the cool air. Models are
suggesting that the high temperature in Phoenix may dip to the upper 60s
next Thursday! We'll see... Until then, we expect particulate levels to
drop off a bit the next few days, remaining in the low to mid "Moderate"
range. We'll recap today's weather event tomorrow and see how it will
affect your weekend's air quality. Have a good day! -J.Paul
