Synopsis and Discussion
A nearly steady-state weather pattern exists over Arizona. The axis of
an upper level ridge is located over the west coast of the U.S. and will
be slow to move east due to a blocking upper low and trough over the
north and central Plains states. A stronger center of high pressure
aloft - currently located over Baja California Sur - will keep a
westerly flow going over Arizona. The strong warming trend originally
forecast to begin today has been delayed until the weekend. Under these
circumstances, one would expect highest concentrations of coarse
particles (PM-10) and ozone (O3) to be no higher than the mid-moderate
range of the Air Quality Index thru Friday. -Reith
