Synopsis and Discussion
The winds have begun to pick up from the west and southwest as a fairly strong cold front pushes through the region. The deserts of Southern California and even Yuma, AZ have noted blowing dust with wind gusts above 40 mph Tuesday morning. These winds will spread across the Phoenix forecast area this afternoon. Interesting to note... The Phoenix metro area received over an inch of rain last week where the desert locations west of the Valley didn't get very much at all. Much of the local soil should be anchored down by the recent moisture, but we could see some transport dust later on Tuesday afternoon. This has prompted the PM-10 Health Watch for Tuesday in the Phoenix forecast area. Cooler air will settle across the region Wednesday with Phoenix topping out in the low 70s. High pressure will begin to build and temps will climb toward 90°F by Sunday. Particulate levels will likely climb into the mid to upper "Moderate" category Tuesday at some sites, but concentrations will decrease through the end of the week under lighter winds. Ozone will increase as winds decrease and temperatures rise. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Have a good day! -J.Paul
