Synopsis and Discussion
No local air quality problems are expected in the short term; cloud cover and cooler temperatures will inhibit ozone production, while recent and forecast additional rainfall will serve to stabilize loose soils and curb dust production. The weather feature responsible is an upper level low and major short wave trough off the northern Baja coast. The associated cyclonic circulation has tapped into deep sub-tropical moisture and carried it over Arizona where daytime heating and cooler air aloft will add instability to the air mass. Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur into the weekend and valley storm rainfall totals between 1/2 and 3/4” are possible by Sunday morning. Enjoy. -Reith
