24BUSynopsis and Discussion
Particulates are beginning to disperse nicely after that strong wind
event Wednesday in Arizona. It's ozone, however, that has unexpectedly
increased. There must have been some good import of un-scavenged ozone
and precursors Wednesday into Thursday that lead to elevated levels
Thursday afternoon in the far north and east parts of the Valley. An
early check shows that some of these sights didn't drop off much, so
Friday may be another day with high readings. Currently, Arizona is in
between a small area of low pressure off the coast of Los Angeles and an
area of high pressure over Texas. The gradient isn't that strong, so
winds will remain fairly light from the south the next few days. It's
possible that we could see ozone levels in the upper "Moderate" range
through Sunday before the weaker low decides to push east. Particulates
will continue to decrease across the forecast area this weekend. Check
back Sunday for a look at your coming week's weather and air quality.
Have a great weekend! -J.Paul
