Synopsis and Discussion
Monday morning ACARS sounding data indicates that the best mixing depth today will be near 3500’ and that dispersion will be POOR to MARGINAL due to a light transport wind speed. The Valley Brown Cloud is extremely dense this morning, contributed to by the poor dispersion mentioned above, high moisture content in the low levels, and another likely spike in smoke from holiday fireplace use. Air quality monitors registered high PM-2.5 levels in some areas on Sunday and again this morning. Fortunately, pressure gradients associated with another upper level low and trough passage should yield enough winds to at least temporarily improve mixing and dispersion by Tuesday. -Reith
