Synopsis and Discussion
Visibility was a very good indicator of the air quality across the
Valley on Thursday as all pollutants were in the "Good" category of the
Air Quality Index (AQI). A layer of stratus clouds that moved over the
forecast area overnight has now pushed out and sunny skies prevail once
again. Funny thing... the temperature was so cold here Phoenix Friday
morning (low to mid 30s) that the radar actually depicted the status
clouds as snow! Of course it didn't actually reach the ground, but it's
unusual to look at the radar and see blue over Phoenix! High pressure
will make for a very pleasant weekend with steadily increasing
temperatures through New Years. Morning inversions are expected to be
moderate and afternoon mixing won't be the greatest, either, the next
several days. So... wood burning: Please limit it as much as possible
through New Years so we can avoid Health Watches and HPAs which lead to
No Burn Days being issued by the County. We can all make this a
breathable New Years, so spread the word! Check back on Sunday for a
more detailed outlook the coming holiday. Have a great weekend!
