Synopsis and Discussion
*A PM10 HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR TODAY, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21,
2007*
They were brief, and for the most part not measurable, but the early
morning showers that move through the Valley Friday were great to see.
Clear skies have now become the rule across the forecast area and winds
have picked up out of the west. Drying will continue pretty much
through next week despite several expected waves pushing through the
region. The next system will approach the area on Sunday followed by
one on Tuesday into Wednesday, and again on Thursday. At this point it
doesn't appear that any of these systems will bring significant rain or
snow to Arizona. In the mean time, particulate levels will hold in the
"Moderate" range of the Air Quality Index. Fine particulates have been
threatening to exceed the health standard, but there has been just
enough mixing to keep that from happening this week. This should be the
case Saturday through Christmas day with the next couple of
disturbances. However, the amount of residential wood burning/fireplace
during the calm evenings with strong inversion between systems could
outweigh the mixing these storms bring. We'll have to wait and see how
it all plays out. Check back on Sunday and Monday for the detailed
Christmas Eve and Day forecasts. Have a great weekend! -J.Paul
