Health message for Wednesday, Dec 19: Unusually sensitive people should
consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Synopsis and Discussion
A series of weak upper level ridges and troughs in the mid-latitude
storm track will race by overhead today thru Thursday. One such trough
will cycle past on Wednesday and result in slight cooling and perhaps a
bit higher afternoon winds. A much stronger weather disturbance is on
pace to arrive on Friday but is beginning to look more like a wind than
rain producer for the local forecast area. In the short term, the
proximity of the storm track will continue to prevent much in the way of
warming aloft which in turn should keep the local air mass from becoming
more stagnant than it is. Although PM-10 (coarse particle) levels have
begun to inch upward - the West Forty Third monitoring site recorded a
200+ug/m3 hourly concentration at 7:00 a.m. - PM-2.5 (fine particle)
concentrations were noticeably lower than the same time yesterday.
Local ACARS sounding data indicates that dispersion today will be
MARGINAL to FAIR today with a mixing depth of less than 3K'. Highest
particle pollutant levels are anticipated to be in the mid-moderate
range of the Air Quality Index the nest few days. -Reith
