Synopsis and Discussion
It’s evident that seasonal activities are affecting local air quality this weekend. Just like Christmas weekend one week ago where we saw Fine Particulate (PM-2.5) levels exceed the health standard, these concentrations are once again on the rise as residents ignite their fireplaces. All other pollutants, including the recently problematic Coarse Particulates (PM-10), are well in the “Good” range. Not much change is expected the next few days with another quick-moving trough of low pressure diving south through Arizona Monday and Tuesday. Moisture will be limited with very little chance of showers in the Valley Monday. The system, however, will keep the atmosphere mixed just enough so that Particulate levels will remain relatively low. Afternoon desert temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s through the end of the week, so outdoor activities should be fine. Check back tomorrow for the latest. Have a Happy New Year! –J.Paul
