*NEW* ADEQ Monitoring Tips of the Month - September 2010

Only one month left to collect ANNUAL or TRIENNIAL disinfection
by-product (DBP) samples for Community and Non-transient Non-community
water systems that add a disinfectant to the drinking water (or receive
finished treated water thru a consecutive connection or via a water
hauler) during any part of the drinking water treatment process.

Stage 1 Disinfection By-Products (DBP):

* ANNUAL and TRIENNIAL samples should be collected between June
1 and September 30

* Consult the public water system's Disinfection By-Products
Site Sampling Plan for locations to monitor and to see if you need to
update it prior to sampling.

* Take samples at locations representing maximum residence time
(MRT) (unless the system is a surface water system or elects to take
more than the required frequency, then at least 25% are taken at MRT and
the rest are taken at average residence time).

* The number of required samples depends on your population
served, number of treated sources, and source type (ground water or
surface water) - contact us if you have questions.

If you have any questions, please contact the Drinking Water Monitoring
and Protection Unit Manager, Donna Calderon, at 602-771-4641 or
dml@azdeq.gov.

Only one month left to collect your ANNUAL or TRIENNIAL lead and copper
(Pb/Cu) samples for all Community and Non-transient Non-community water
systems on reduced monitoring.

Lead and Copper:

* ANNUAL and TRIENNIAL samples should be collected between June
1 and September 30

* Consult the public water system's Lead and Copper Site
Sampling Plan for locations to monitor, and to see if you need to update
the plan prior to sampling.

* Make sure you know how many samples are required...changes in
population can affect the required number of samples.

* You must take a 'first draw' tap water sample:

* Water must have remained motionless for at least six hours
prior to sample collection

* Interior COLD water tap typically used for consumption

* Kitchen, bathroom, water fountain, etc.

*         1 Liter container.
