WATER SYSTEMS OPERATOR 
Tucson Water Department 

Grade: 917 Salary: $16.28 - $25.30 per hour/ DOE


The Utility Services-Water Department is seeking an individual to
operate, monitor, and control water treatment facilities, distribution
systems and related equipment. They would also make necessary
adjustments to maintain the integrity of the water system. Rotating
shifts, weekends, and holiday work is mandatory. 

Some examples of the essential tasks are: 



- Responds to alarms and emergencies, performs facility checks for any
unusual operations, operates, monitors and controls various equipment
from the control room and locally, and dispatchs maintenance personnel. 

- Monitors treatment plant and distribution systems by operating systems
from the control room, making repair and operation decisions, maintains
treatment facilities for a safe and healthy environment. 

- Monitors and operates various facilities by reading and adjusting
levels, calculating rates, opening and closing gates and valves,
operating and controlling pumps, recording meter readings and analyzing
and adjusting plant flow requirements 

- Collects samples for analysis, reads meters and monitors, writes
forms, performs lab analysis on samples for various parameters,
determining when or if process changes are necessary and calibrating lab
instruments and chemical pumps. 

- Schedules and tracks personnel, generates reports, extracts data from
reports, stores and archives data, creates hard copies of data, handles
customer complaints and maintains logbooks. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
High school diploma and/or six months of vocational, technical or
administrative training past high schoo and two (2) years experience
operating water treatment facilities and/or distribution systems
required, also a valid driver's license. Arizona Department of
Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water/Treatment Plant Grade III
Certification and/or ADEQ Water Distribution Grade III Certification
required. 

Requirements to apply: ADEQ or equivalent Grade II or above, the two
years of experience; at least one ADEQ Grade III Certification required
within 12 months of hire, ADEQ Wastewater Grade III desirable but not
required to apply. A valid driver's license.
