SUMMARY

Based upon assignment, incumbents operate wastewater treatment plants
and collection systems or perform water resources work. Duties depending
on assignment may include collecting water samples and performing
routine tests; conducting rounds; logging data; performing minor
maintenance; responding to complaints; input of data to order water;
monitoring use of water; monitoring wastewater treatment plant
processes, and observing and coordinating work of contractors.  The
Reclaimed Water Operator will operate reclaim water equipment, wells,
distribution systems and storage and recharge basins.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is
not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities
performed by positions in this class.

*         Monitors, operates,  and performs routine minor maintenance to
ensure proper operations, which may include: reading meters, gauges, and
other monitoring equipment; lubricating equipment; calibrating
equipment, cleaning samplers; ensuring equipment is operating within
specified parameters; operating pumps, motors, valves, compressors,
wells, filtration, emergency diesel generators, portable generators, and
chemical feeder equipment; observing reclaim water for compliance and
aesthetics; and/or, performing other related duties

*         Collects samples, submits for laboratory analysis, and
performs routine process laboratory tests

*         Prepares and completes data sheets, logs, flowcharts, and/or
reports, which includes: compiling and calculating information and data;
inputting data into a database; checking, recording, and updating
records; and/or, preparing other related information

*         Performs maintenance and repairs on distribution lines and
equipment

*         Orders water for City lakes

*         Monitors and identifies illegal water use

*         Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

Knowledge of:

*         Water sampling techniques and procedures

*         Basic mathematical principles

*         Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in operating,
maintaining, and repairing City water treatment, and/or reclaimed water
systems, potable water systems, and recharge facilities

*         Occupational hazards with wastewater

*         Water and wastewater operation and maintenance processes and
practices

*         Basic hand and power tools

*         Safe work practices and procedures

 

Skilled in:

*	Utilizing tools and equipment of the trade
*	Operating reclaim water systems and devices

 

Ability to:

*	Collect water samples
*	Read meters
*	Read technical manuals and work instructions and apply them to
maintenance and operation activities
*	Read and understand various drawings and schematics
*	Use SCADA/PLC and software programs including Hansen Information
Technologies
*	Use a forklift and backhoe equipment 
*	Work with minimum supervision
*	Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with
coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficiently exchange or
convey information and to receive work direction

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma and G.E.D., and one year of reclaimed water,
wastewater, or water utilities; or laboratory related experience; or, an
equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to
successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those
listed above.  

 

CERTIFICATION

Must have a valid Arizona driver's license at time of hire; Arizona
State Grade 1 or higher Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution
certifications.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that

Requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching,
standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping,
feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

 

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of
20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Position is required to wear a respirator to complete a portion of the
position accountabilities.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative
of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
exposed to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and outside weather
conditions.  The employee is may be exposed to odors or airborne
particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high places and risk
of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.
