Private well owners & PWS operators who advise or consult with private well owners, please note:
Yavapai County Master Watershed Stewards and the Yavapai County Cooperative Extension are once again providing cost-recovery test kits for private well owners to test their water during National Drinking Water Week, May 1st thru the 7th, 2006. If you or your program is interested in participating and/or collaborating with this effort contact me ASAP.
This is an annual program provided as a public service for private well owners to check their water for drinking safety. Kits are only ordered and prepared for those participants who request and reserve their kits prior to April 17th. Kits may be reserved by sending a check (made payable to the University of Arizona) to our Prescott or Cottonwood Offices.
>From the press release for this program:
"The cost to reserve and receive a Basic, 5-parameter WWT Kit is $8.00. A "Well Water-Plus" test kit, which includes the basic five parameters (described below) , and an on-site test for Arsenic is available, at a cost of $23.00. Kits will be mailed to all participants during National Drinking Water Week. These on-site, "shirt pocket" test kits will test your water for five parameters: Nitrates, Nitrites, Hardness, pH, and Alkalinity. This 'use-at-home' kit is easy to use, reliable, accurate, and will provide you with immediate results (in your home...no lab trips) of your water quality.
Testing (including the arsenic test) requires about 30 minutes of your time. The results are not "certified" but are reliable and should provide an immediate warning to suggest further examination if necessary. In addition, optional, bacterial testing discount coupons will be provided by Bradshaw Mountain Laboratory, a Cooperative Extension partner in this years program. Acustrip,Inc, the kit materials provider, has provided
discounted kit materials for the past several years, in support of this community service, cost-recovery, program. Participants choosing to share their results with the UA - Cooperative Extension Office will receive confidential comments and follow-up information regarding their water's quality by local Master Watershed Stewards and
Cooperative Extension Staff."
The UA-Cooperative Extension-Yavapai County appreciates your support. Participant outside of Yavapai County are welcome.
