Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 50 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Tres Rios Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF) to the Santa Cruz River in the Santa Cruz – Rio Magdalena-Rio Sonoita River Basin in Township 13 S, Range 12 E, Section 1, in Pima County, Arizona. The Tres Rios WRF is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial sources in the Tucson metropolitan area. Sludge is stabilized in an aerobic digester and then dewatered for land application or landfill disposal.
