PUBLIC NOTICE | No Further Action Determination for the APS Douglas Manufactured Gas Plant Voluntary Remediation Program (VRP) Site

Arizona Public Service (APS) has submitted a request for a No Further Action (NFA) determination to the ADEQ Voluntary Remediation Program (VRP) for the APS Douglas Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) VRP site. The NFA requests closure for soil and was submitted in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes § 49-181.

The APS Douglas MGP VRP site covers approximately 2.15 acres on property owned by the City of Douglas and private owners, located in Douglas, Arizona. The site was once home to an MGP that operated between around 1905 to the 1950s. Contaminants of concern at the site consist of MGP residues in the soil, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). PAHs are formed from the incomplete burning of materials such as coal or oil.

A determination of NFA means that no further action shall be taken by ADEQ to remediate or require remediation of the site or portion of the site covered by the no further action determination, except in limited circumstances described in statute | View A.R.S. 49-181(E) >
