PUBLIC NOTICE | Programmatic Agreement for the Maroon Crater Artillery Range Munitions Response Site in Coconino County
As part of the Department of Defense’s Military Munitions Response Program, the United States (U.S.) Army National Guard – Directorate invites the public to review and comment on the Programmatic Agreement for the Maroon Crater Artillery Range Concentrated Munitions Use Area (CMUA) Munitions Response Site (MRS) located approximately 7 miles northeast of Flagstaff, Arizona in Coconino County. The MRS is on land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The Army is the lead agency responsible for environmental investigations and cleanup activities of these sites under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. ADEQ is a supporting agency in the decision making process.
The Programmatic Agreement has been developed between the Army National Guard - Directorate, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office to address Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for the removal of military munitions at the Maroon Crater Artillery Range CMUA MRS (AZHQ-009-R-01). The Programmatic Agreement outlines the stipulations required to minimize the effects of the removal of military munitions on historic sites and artifacts that may be present within the 565-acre Area of Potential Effect.
