PUBLIC NOTICE | 16th Street & Camelback WQARF Site PRAP

ADEQ has completed the Proposed Remedial Action Plan (PRAP) for the 16th Street and Camelback Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) site in Phoenix, Ariz. Under Arizona Administrative Code R18-16-408(C), the PRAP documents the results of the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS), which identifies the proposed remedy and its estimated costs.

The 16th Street and Camelback WQARF site consists of a plume located in Phoenix. The plume is bounded approximately by Camelback Road to the north, Highland Avenue to the south, 17th Street to the east and 15th Street to the west. The contaminant of concern at the site is tetrachloroethene (PCE).

The proposed remedy for the site is monitored natural attenuation (MNA). MNA is a remedial measure that involves routine groundwater sampling and analysis to monitor the results of one or more naturally occurring physical, chemical or biological processes that reduce the mass, toxicity, volume or concentration of chemicals in groundwater.  This remedial measure requires groundwater monitoring over a period of years to verify that attenuation is occurring and to ensure that progress is made in terms of meeting the remedial objectives. When the contaminant of concern is less than the Aquifer Water Quality Standard (AWQS) of 5 micrograms per liter (µg/L), the wells will be abandoned and the site delisted. The estimated cost to implement this remedy is approximately $354,747 for a period of 12 years. Previous costs accrued by ADEQ total $834,090.91.
