Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) Registry Sites

ADEQ has established a Registry of sites in Arizona where groundwater and/or soil contamination is present and which qualify for funds from the Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF). Sites on the WQARF Registry are evaluated and given a score based in part on the type and location of contaminant(s), and the possibility for human exposure to the contaminant(s) present. The scores are used to help determine relative risk at the site, but do not necessarily indicate a direct risk to people or the environment. The maximum score a site can receive is 120.

U.S. EPA National Priorities List (NPL) Sites (Federal Superfund)

The National Priority List is the U.S. EPA's list of the most serious uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites identified for possible long-term remedial response under Superfund. Inclusion of a site on the list is based primarily on the score the site receives under the Hazard Ranking System. Money from Superfund can be used for cleanup only at sites that are on the NPL.

La Lista de Prioridades Nacionales (NPL, por sus siglas en ingles), es la lista de la Agencia Federal de Protección del Medio Ambiente (U.S. EPA, por sus siglas en ingles), de los sitios que más seriamente están fuera de control o abandonados con materiales peligrosos y que son identificados por el programa federal de Superfondo por necesitar acciones remediadoras de largo plazo. La colocación de un sitio en esta lista es basada por la calificación que el sitio recibe bajo el sistema de calificación de peligro. Superfund Alternative Sites

The Superfund alternative (SA) approach uses the same investigation and cleanup process and standards that are used for sites listed on the NPL. The SA approach is really an alternative to listing a site on the NPL; it is not an alternative Superfund process.

Department of Defense (DOD) Sites

The Department of Defense sites are those sites that are located at either active duty bases or bases being closed under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) regulations and Formerly Used Defense sites that are eligible for funding under the Installation Restoration Program as overseen by ADEQ.
