Arizona Children's Environmental Health Program: Climate Change and Children's Environmental Health

The report from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) outlines the health impact of global climate change on children. Because children are often the most vulnerable to adverse health effects from environmental hazards, the potential impact of climate change is a serious issue. Particularly in Arizona our children may be exposed to extreme weather events, climate-sensitive infectious diseases, an increase in air pollution-related illness and, within the many highly populated portions of the state, more heat-related illnesses that could be potentially fatal.

In addition, Arizona has suffered from serious drought conditions for the past several years and climate change can seriously exacerbate this state-wide problem. In addition to the AAP paper, there is additional information on what Arizona is doing about climate change. View the Climate Change Initiative and you can learn about the Governor's Climate Action Initiative. Information on this site includes a copy of the Governor's Climate Change Action Plan, which provides an additional resource on this very serious environmental problem and how our state can take actions to help solve for all of us and particularly for our children.
